I think the biggest difference for me that makes it worth the upgrade is the auto focus, it's faster, more accurate and tracks moving objects better much better then the old one.

Optically it's better then the old one, sharper and more contrast, colours match my other G lenses.

I'm a happy camper so far.

anyway.. good to see those test shots by whats-her-face on Flickr are not what we're seeing here from someone local. I would have hated to see the harsh out of focus areas that were in some of those test photos !!!
