Has anyone here ever had to replace the CF Door on their D700? And did you do it yourself??? if so ---- I want to know how on earth the hinge pin is removed so that I can install the new door I bought from Nikon! Arghhh. I racked my brain for at least an hour this afternoon trying to figure it out, looking up stuff on the internet, and getting absolutely nowhere. I do not want to have to pay for a service guy to change it. I used to do the doors on my D2h/D2x all by my self, and had no issues with those. But Nikon has gone and made this into some kind of puzzle on the new bodies. boo Nikon -- booo!

I have not had to do it to mine yet but by looking at it you will need to take off the metal pin retention bar (flat thingy beside the "CF this way in" sticker) and either just slide it down by grabbing it from there or take the base plate off and slide it fully out the bottom. hopefully for your sake it is the first of the two as the second may present a bit of a challenge....

what if you undo the two little screw on the metal plate and lift the plate towards the back of the camera. next push the pin down towards the bottom of the camera( same way as would push out the pin from a watch strap).

just guessing so watch out.

nope nope nope --- doesn't work. I have been reading - and it appears as if the camera has to be dismantled in order to replace this stupid thing.

Ed - my old CF door is broken to the point where 1/2 of it is missing from having hit a gravel driveway last weekend.
