So far I see this Sandisk 8G for $39.99

http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_s ... xedcode=WW

or this Lexar Plantium II for $49.99 at Futurshop

http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/ ... 423792en02

or this Kingston Elite Pro 8G at Canadacomputers for $28.99

http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_ ... _id=013755

or Kingston at TD for $23.99
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... u=K24-9624

Which one is the best deal for the buck?

The Sandisk, it's fast, unlike the Lexar and generally Sandisk or Lexar are the brands to pick over anything else.

Agree with the kingston. Dont ever buy them. Sandisk are great CF cards, had mine for over 3 years, no problem.

The kingston I have...used once and its dead.
They say lifetime warranty as long as you have a receipt...but who keeps those anyways..

I have 3 Kingston 16GB and not a single problem. I'd put it down to luck but I have a pile of empirical evidence that states I am not at all lucky. Then again mine are only 6 months old. But, they keep up with the 7D shooting large raw pretty well and were nice and cheap. I got mine from Canada Computers on sale.

I'm pissed at Lexar as I never got my rebate; rebates are a scam. It's not necessarily a correlation but if a company screws up a rebate how are they going to be with warranty?

Although a little more then the prices you quote (which I expect are not for high speed cards) you might want to check out this site,

http://www.cameracard.ca/home.php

Here are some comments on these new cards;

http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/conten ... 0043-10255

http://sportsphotoguy.com/new-kid-in-to ... /#more-623

I haven't tried them myself but have been thinking about getting one. I exchanged emails with a couple of users who were very happy with the cards and the service from the distributor.

Agree with Sandisk, agree with Lexar, although I prefer Sandisk.

Don't ever buy Kingston...I had Kingston in my desktop, and I had module after module die, even after being replaced with the same product.

Is Cameracard.ca the only Canadian retailer to carry the G-Monster Plus?

I purchased a Gmonster 32gig 533x CF from Camera card.

Recommended by Sabesh (an active member here and on POTN) I got in contact with Hugh through cameracard.ca.

Hugh got it shipped the next morning and arrived the next day. You'll save on one of the taxes since it's coming from Montreal (8%). The perfomance on this card is quite impressive. I've used Transcend 300x UDMA and Lexar 300X UDMA previously and I love this card and the capacity (currently used on a 5D2).

Highly recommend cameracard.ca and this CF card.

I believe it was $10 for shipping.

Also I forgot to mention:

You can receive 10% discount as well - read below. Basically what happens is, full payment is done by paypal. Then he will refund 10% back to your paypal credit card. You can email him on the site to see if you qualify first before ordering.

---
Hugh@CameraCard.Ca
Thanks to all for the feedback, if you have any questions about the cards or the order process please contact me directly, the easiest way is by email- hugh@cameracard.ca

Edit: Lookup on google for "cameracard.ca 10% discount"

Doesn't look like Gmaster is cheap after all and not looking for 16G or 32G cards......budget is really $50 or under and 8G works with me.

As mentioned earlier:
http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_ ... p?cid=6007
is THE source for performance info.
Can't go wrong with SanDisk or Lexar.

These are cheap for UDMA cards if you need the speed.

Excellent card 16gb good with 5D HI DEF Video (not that I can test that). Great reviews. I can say it has been reliable and FAST!!!

That's pretty cheap for 400x 16GB. I have a 4GB Transcend that's 3yrs old and going strong. Mind you I haven't used it in a while other than doing firmware updates or saving my camera custom settings. Might have to try one out but I'd hate for it to die in the middle of an event. The question is, how likely is any one particular brand to die over another? Do I go with the cheaper card or spend double on another brand card?

Don't take my word for it search the internet it is a stable card and FAST FAST FAST....

On my PC transfering from this card I get 40 Megs/sec easy. A full card is transferred in a minute. I spent a long time researching this and the combo of this card and my reader is blistering fast. Also performs well on my 40D but it hardly pushes this card.

Sounds good to me. Are you using a firewire reader?

If the underlying technology is SLC, as I understand it, it is more reliable and you can write many more times than MLC and faster too. These days alot of manufacturers use MLC and write to multiple channel arrays concurrently to offset for the slower type of memory. ie Transcend 400x UDMA MLC vs say a Transcend 300x UDMA SLC. If you want reliablity and budget was not a constraint, I would get a CF that uses SLC before I consider a brand (obviously I would stay away from some such as AData) but Transcend has always been good for me.
