Anyone knows a good spot for Nikon Lens repair? I've tried contacting http://www.torontocameraservice.com/ but their number seems to be out of service. Thanks

I've had issues with Nikon Canada's repair dept. taking forever to fix a lens. I am waiting until I get back from Vancouver, as I need to take in my 28-70 again..... I am really unhappy with how stiff the zoom ring is. But I can't afford to have my lens gone for weeks on end. They say 2 weeks, but I took a lens in for Maureen, and it was 6 weeks before we got it back.

If only you were an NPS member. :) I suspect that the turnaround time would be a little better.

if the reason is you're hitting up the olympics, and were with NPS they'll have a area right there for 24 hr. loaners :)

i haven't had to take anything in yet as a member, but i hear the turnaround is quite fast and you can even get a loaner whilst your stuff is being repaired

I took one of my camera bodies into Nikon in Mississauga for a squeak when the sensor cleaner was used. They said it would be back in two weeks. They called me in a week and said it was ready. They cleaned it and the squeak was gone.

Being an NPS member probably does help. My latest trip was just a couple of weeks ago, to repair an SB-900 I had blown up. I brought it in on Monday, and they called on Friday to say I could pick it up. Fixed up good as new under warranty, so no charge. They also offer me loaners each time, which is a far cry from the treatment I got from CPS with loaner Canon gear...

What is a NPS member anyway and what does cost?

It's a customer service program that offers full-time professional photographers access to equipment loaners, expedited repair services around the world, special pricing for certain gear at introduction, etc. There is no fee to become a member, but you do need another NPS member or an authorized Nikon dealer to sponsor you, you have to show proof of professional status, and you must own at least two pro-level bodies and three pro-level lenses to qualify.

I forget exactly what I submitted, but they could ask for things like your business name, web site, letterhead, customer referrals, Ontario vendor permit number and/or GST registration, etc. I am incorporated in Ontario with my own web site and an e-mail address at my own domain, so it's easy to prove I have a photography business. Whether they actually look you up in NUANS or verify your vendor permits or call up your client referrals, etc. I have no idea. I suspect they don't do much digging. Usually, the minimum equipment requirement weeds out enough people that Nikon doesn't have to worry about any joe schmoe off the street applying for membership.
