On sale again! One day sale.

This is an IPS panel.

There will also be the 24 inch for $499 going on sale shortly. Be your own judge if it's worth x2.

hard time deciding whether I should upgrade or not....

My current 22" isn't really that good for colour representation, but i won't be getting an upgrade in resolution or desk space...

on the other hand $220 is pretty good...

tough decision...

Sell your old one, that will make your decision easier. =)

Doh, missed it!

I have two IBM ThinkVisions, which are alright, but, I don't like them for photo manipulation... too dark.

The 2209WA is the best overall monitor around. Decent colour (~80%), great response time, excellent contrast, and perfect stand. Perfect blend of performance - most IPS panels have terrible response time and terribly expensive.

Just got my 2209 - thanks carbon4 for the heads up - been wanting to get a monitor for some time now, the timing was perfect.

After using my 15" MBP for too long, this thing is HUGE (ok, i know people use bigger...) and I noticed that the pixel density is lower on the Dell than on my MBP screen - 1690 pixels across a row on the Dell versus 1440 on the MBP.

And I also noticed the colour calibration differences between the two monitors.

So here are my questions:

On MacOS 10.6.1, how well calibrated is the MBP screen using the "color LCD" profile? I know that this may be a useless question since colour calibration is dependent on the ambient light and other factors, and the best way is to actually get a colorimeter, but if I don't want to spend the money, and only want to use my eyes - what is the best way to do this? I've tried the MacOS display calibrator assistant, but I still can't get the screens to match.

I was thinking of adjusting the 2209 to match my MBP screen. Is that a good idea - hence my question re the calibrated-ness of the MBP.

Anyone has done a calibration with colorimeter on the 2209 and is willing to share their ICC profile for MacOS?

Is that a good idea given the ambient is unlikely to be similar?

Can I please borrow someone's colorimeter to calibrate my monitors?

HELP!

It's not calibrated in any way shape or form. And it won't be unless you do a proper calibration. A Huey's $100.

Using someone else's profile won't do any good. Borrowing a Spyder or Huey on the other hand will do plenty of good.

Got my 2290WA today hooked it up and placed it side by side with my Samsung 226BW (TN Panel).

I calibrated both of them with my Spyder2. The difference isn't as big as some of you may think for a properly calibrated TN panel. Although the default on the Samsung was pretty bad before calibration - after calibration the difference between the 2 may be 15% (if that) in terms of colour.

I think the largest difference is the improved viewing angle on the 2209WA.

Lesson learned - ALWAYS calibrate your displays.

doesn't work that way. You'll be calibrating it once or twice a month.

The 2209WA is on sale again, but for $249.00

http://accessories.dell.com/sna/product ... u=320-7825

Is it still worth getting it?
Price is ok and I don't need larger size, all concerns are with the image quality related to photo editing.
Any other suggestions? Thanks!

The 2209 is Dell's older model and it's not 1080p (if 1080p is important to you). If you can wait until they have their new model 2211 on sale again I've seen it on sale for $219. I purchased the 2311 when it was on sale for $249 and it's a great monitor for that price.

Thank you, imageone & carbon4

I've got a friend who is on lookout for me for decent quality monitor (and within the available price range), so I will be playing the waiting game for now.

He talked me out of all these Dell models, unless the price will be cut in half... still, I personally rather save a bit more cash for a better one.

Bought the UltraSharp U2311 last week for $250 ($12 echo fee...). Love the "pivot" feature while working on portrait mode shots. Out-of-the-box calibration is terrible, now I need to hunt for a display calibrator.
