I wish I could help you with that ... I've done tethered shooting with my my old D100.... but that was the last time I tried it. Do they make a wifi device for the 5D?

Now I don't shoot with Canon, but i've seen it done by others.

You can use one of the programs that came with the 5D. I'm not too sure what its called but all you have to do is connect your 5D to your computer with a usb cord and open the program. it should recognize that a camera is connected and youre ready to shoot.

im pretty sure you can also tether using Capture One if you have it.

You can use Canon EOS Utility which should be on the CD included with camera.

Basically connect the camera to PC via USB > Start EOS Utility.

Extra info: You can also set your camera Owner, Copyright info here (so that it will be embedded into EXIF).

As Xerox said. Shooting tethered on Canon DSLR's is easier than most, because the software comes with the camera (Nikon makes you pay extra).

Does anyone know how to set up a Canon 5D to shoot and view the image directly on a PC screen?

You seem to be asking two different things here, at least with my experience with shooting tethered (via Olympus).

One is to download to the PC, but at the same time you want the shot image shown on a monitor.

If your intention is only to show people the image you just shot (without the need of transferring the images to a PC), it's a lot more convenient (and faster) to use the video output from the camera directly into a video monitor or TV with video-in. I've personally done this with my live view capable camera through a digital projector so that a large audience can see not only the image shot but also through the "viewfinder".

Make sure you turn off the power saver so it doesn't disconnect while shooting.

Tape up the USB cable so it doesn't fall off either.

They make a wi-fi SD memory card that works with digital cameras but I haven't seen a CF version.

Or if you got a $999.USD burning a hole in your wallet:

LOL, didn't even notice the CF adapter there. Not too much to invest in an experiment. But what's the data transfer rate? Imagine using a 5D Mark II in RAW mode?!

Check out Breeze Systems they have a remote program for Canon DSLRs that provides more fuctionality than the remote program that comes with your camera.

it's also unclear about raw file transfer, seems like you need the version for $149 or smthn

Some people have tested Eye-Fi with a CF adapter, BUT the thing about the Eye-Fi is the camera has to be on and doing NOTHING in order for the image(s) to be transmitted...it doesn't transmit while you are shooting (unlike a wired tethered).
