Everyone,

It's been about a year since I've taken any film to the Shopper's Drug Mart at Yonge and King. Are they still doing film, and if so, is there a particular person I should ask for? Are they able to cross-process and scan 35mm slide film?

Thanks.

Both the Y&K and Eglinton and Avenue rd still do film. In addition to 35mm Y&K develops but does not scan 120 film. E&A as better hours including Sunday. They both xpro. Mostly the film is ok but sometimes it's not that good (dirty negatives). First run in the morning is often worse then later in the day.

You get what you pay for and in Shoppers case you don't pay very much so maybe you are getting more then you payed for.

Eglinton and Avenue Rd? I live in the area but don't know of any Shoppers right there. Are you referring to the one at Eglinton and Chaplin? (or Avenue Rd and Lawrence?)

It's 2 or 3 blocks west of Avenue rd so it could be Chaplin. The one up at Lawrence doesn't even know that film is still made.

Yeah, it's near Chaplin. Good to know they do film -- maybe I'll take some there today.

I had a couple of rolls of 35mm done at the Eglinton / Chaplin SDM -- one straight, one cross-process. $3 per roll, low-res scanning included. Can't complain.

I just got my film processed at the Shoppers @ Yonge/King. No prints/scans, just straight processing. The film was uncut, is that because I didn't ask for it? The girl behind the counter wasn't that nice either, but I guess that's what I get for 1 day processing for $3.88.

Normally the negs should only be uncut if you asked for it as such.

If you don't know how to use film then you aren't a real photographer

So once they stop making film there will be no more real photographers?

Disregard the Luddite. He hasn't been the same ever since he lost his job in the buggy whip factory. :-)

If you know Metrix you would know that he doesn't discriminate between film and digital technologies. He's very well rounded - in terms of photography that is :D

Film? I remember making transparency films of my presentation at work. Ones that you have to put through these hot rolling machines and you have to make sure that it is not too hot and not too cold but it only comes out B&W. The worst part is that you did all that work to find that the overhead projector light burnt out :( Is that what you meant? Who needs Powerpoint? :D

Don't have to worry about that. By the time they stop making film all your DVDs, Cds ... compact flash and hard drives will be corroded , crashed, obsolete and unreadable. It's a big problem archiving digital media for historic purposes.
