I want to get a protective film(scratch resistant film) to put on my t1i's screen..
I don't have a credit card so I would like to find something downtown..
Any suggestions?
And also should I get a UV lens thing for my lens kit that came with my camera?

Protective film: you should be able to buy at larger camera stores (Henry's, Vistek) or electronics stores (FutureShop, BestBuy), etc. You can use the same stuff that's used to protect electronic games (Nintendo DS, etc., except you'll have to trim it to size...the camera stores should be able to find something pre-cut since they are familiar with your camera.

UV: That's a heated debate whether to use one or not...some people show a cracked UV saying it saved the lens, but did it really save the lens, or was it just the UV was more fragile (not to mention the glass shards from the UV scratched the lens). I used to use one religiously, now I never use one. If you decide to get one, get one that's multi-coated (to reduce risk of flare). There are threads on here that debate the argument.

As for the lens, can't help you there unless you want to go "legacy" lens (a lens designed for film cameras, but it will be manual (no AF, no auto aperture), and you may need to buy an adapter online).

Aden Camera. I got a protective film for my XTi there and asked them to put it on. Did the same thing for my G9 (that I've now sold).

You're kit lens IS the cheap zoom/landscape lens.. lol

An upgrade would be Canon 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS but it's not much of an improvement to the new kit lens that you already have so I wouldn't recommend it. http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/show ... roduct=222

A higher upgrade would be the Canon 17-55 IS but that's over a grand. http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/show ... roduct=303

You can skip out on Canon though and go for the third party lenses. They're usually about $300-$700

Tamron: http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/show ... roduct=308

Sigma: http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/show ... roduct=283

Tokina: http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/show ... roduct=326

I've used Canon's 18-55 kit lens, the 17-85, and the 17-55. The 17-55 is teh pwnage. Obviously. lol =)

For now, I'd recommend you to keep your kit lens and get the nifty-fifty so you can shoot indoor/night with ease.

I have a new, unused clear screen guard if you're interested. Sticker price says $29.99 but I think I only paid $20 for it. It's yours for $10. if you're interested.

It's not the typical clear film type. This one is made by Marumi and it is the firm plastic version.

Oh, FYI, if any of your LCD screens (actually it's a screen cover) gets scratched, you can buy a replacement LCD screen/guard kit from Canon. I think they're about $30.-$40. and comes with the primary LCD guard as well as the top one near the shutter button. Takes about 5mins to replace.
