FujiFilm acknoledges delays in X100 shipments, promises urgent production capacity Increase. Sigh. It is nice looking. Such a stupid price though. Not for them, the hipsters are gonna buy in droves. I wish I were a hipster.

This unit is still in my crosshairs,,,,,though I don't do hipster well.

Heck......I don't even do high tech well.

But it is the 1st camera in a long time that will get me into a camera store for a lookie-loo.

wow, what a bunch of comments from posers that have not even touched the camera!!!

sells for $1,199 Cdn, has a large sensor and a fantastic lens, very sharp.

Why would you want to put a micro 4 thirds on it? Why is it a poor man's Leica? etc, etc... WFT! Hipsters will buy it!

shut up and get a life!

I picked one of these up last week and can tell you it is small, light and takes great pictures... does it focus as fast as my Canon 5D, no, but bet you would not tell the difference in most of the images.

The camera has lots of quirks, like funny menus that take time to get to know, and it also locks up regularly after taking 6 or 7 shots quickly in a row, my guess is that it cannot handle processing the files to the card that well. Most likely a firmware update will fix this as I have read it is a common problem.

I have a Leica X1 and it takes the same pictures as the Fuji X100... but the menus and operation is not as well laid out, the Fuji feels better and the dials are steel, not plastic.

the manual focus takes a bit getting used to but works great and is accurate, I use manual focus because it gets rid of any shutter lag.

the film simulation modes work great too, B&W is perfect straight from the camera.

It also has what is called Dynamic range mode, you can set it to +200% for example and it creates depth to the photo and details in the shadows.

one thing i love, is the viewfinder, sharper and brighter than most SLR's on the market and after you take a picture, you get a preview in the viewfinder of what you just shot - no more glancing down at the LCD to see what your shot looks like, it is amazing how this works so well!

WOW - $1200, I'll get one. If they lower the price to $400 I'll get 3.

Nah. Actually I won't buy it even if it sells for $400. I still haven't figured out how to use my 30D to it's maximum potential. The only thing I'd use this for is for street photography but I'm pretty sure I could still get the same shot with a 30D. It just requires growing a bigger pair. I think street photography is all attitude, desire and the creative use of subterfuge.
In fact I'd probably just miss more shots with this Fuji because of the lag time.

But it does look nice with it's retro styling. Buying one would probably force my hand in to buying a '67 Ford Mustang to properly shoot it from.

Love this comment!

I would totally love to get myself one of these cameras as I have a friend who has one and in playing with it for only about 25minutes I fell in love with this little digital rangefinder. It's digital/optical viewfinder is fantastic and extremely bright, the dials are comfortable to adjust, buttons are small but very pronounced so easy enough to change even with my large hands. The IQ on this little guy is much better than the slightly older X1 from Leica but only due to the newer sensor with better ISO performance. For $1200 it is a bit steep but were it more in the $900-$1000 range it would be perfectly priced. Worth every penny at around that range.

My take is that if you can afford it and justify the need for a fixed prime rangefinder, then get it. If not but just really want it... wait for a used one(if you are the lucky type that is, as I doubt you will ever find one being sold used, at least not for a long time...)

Having held it in my hands briefly, I definitely got an appreciation of the "old camera feel".

just a question... is it worth the "upgrade" if you already have let's say an E-PL1 with a Panny 20mm 1.7? i know it has a larger sensor but is the lens that much better too than the 20mm 1.7?

thanks in advance

If you have the E-PL1 as just a one camera show, then yes, personally I would go with the x100 over the E-PL1. But if you have the E-PL1 with different lenses and it's your main system, then no. I would rather have the interchangeable lenses.

Hybrid optical viewfinder with frame lines and an electronic viewfinder...

Downside is the battery life is horrible (100-120 shots) and there is no way to confirm focus in manual mode when using the optical viewfinder mode...

Keep the G11 unless you really need an optical viewfinder and intend to make printers much larger than 11x14"... Get a dslr like the d5100 for about half the price if you want more versatility, interchangeable lenses, much better battery life but can life with a smaller dimmer viewfinder and a bigger less pretty package.

better ISO levels, faster focus, better viewfinder, sharper lens, all can be overcome with a G10,11,12 if you know how to shoot, except ISO, if you want no digital noise at ISO 800 or up, this camera is far superior to the Canon G12 model.

oh, you have one? funny i have been shooting with my x100 all week, checking the viewfinder, playing with settings and have taken several hundred photos, in fact I was wondering when the battery would finally quit, it did at the end of the week... battery life seems fine to me.

not a big issue, i have gotten used to setting the manual focus on the LCD, then shooting thru the viewfinder, works pretty fast once you get the hang of it.

this camera is not for everyone, if you do not know exposure, or do not shoot very often, don't get it, this camera takes hours to learn the settings menu so that one can make changes quickly in real life situations.

i shoot people, people that do not pose for pictures, so making quick changes it important and this camera has quirks that take time to get to know. if you use it once a month, you will not be happy with this camera.

You are moving from an interchangeable lens camera to a fixed lens camera.

The X100 is a one trick pony - it does that trick better than anyone else right now so if you like that one trick - go for it.

The sensor is a Fuji mod of the Sony sensor used in the D300/D90 (which was a Nikon mod of a Sony sensor).

Worth is all relative - its about twice the price of EPL-1 with the 20mm F1.7 - is it twice as good - in high ISO - yes, in brightly lit scenes - I don't think so. But it really depends on what you shoot and how you shoot - X100 has a viewfinder - some people only shoot with a viewfinder, other people couldn't care...

m4/3 has some new lenses coming out and some are even fast primes. They also have that new pancake zoom too.

X100 has a leaf shutter - so it can be well worth it for the Strobists type shooter.

It really depends on what you shoot.

I've been seeing some really nice portraits and street photography with the x100 - the image quality seems to have a definite character about them that is appealing.

The X100 is a great camera! A nice and compact quality camera. But I would not hesitate for the slightest moment and trade it away for some nice Leica glass :-) Or a Carl Zeiss :-)
