Canon has confirmed this is an issue. In fact, once the available stock of the bodies has sold there will be no more shipments until the issue is resolved. What Canon will do for people who got the affected bodies is anyone's guess... but I can imagine it will be a bit of a customer service nightmare. All I can say on it is, if you can wait to pick up a body I would wait and do so when they send out the next batch or even wait for the first firmware update. If you can't wait... scoop one up while they're in stock because they won't last long even with the issue (as it's "minor")

No issues on mine! :-)

Good to hear. I'm loving the AF on this. What a difference from Mk2 eh? Great not to focus and re-compose, lol.

By comparison, there was no such thing as AF. On all my cameras to date, I've 99.9% of the time used single shot AF mode and found that the Servo mode was pretty much useless for anything other than taking pictures of a freigher steaming towards you, with your camera on a tripod.

With the Mk3, I have just left it on Servo ALL the time as it is even faster than old one-time focus on the 5D2!

Now, I just need to re-read the stupid manual another 30-40 times to figure out all the Settings. Glad the have the presets though... was playing with the it when I was a passenger in a car the other day by switching between "Case 2: continue to track objects ignoring possible obstacles" vs " Case3: instantly track objects suddenly entering the AF areas."

In the first case you could focus on a far away building and the AF would ignore the trees flying by, other cars, telephone poles and was rock solid. The Case3 was awesome in whipping back and forth as things entered the frame.

Added that to the focus shot priority (where it will take a shot even before focus is locked, but will guarantee lock on second shot) and you've got some really cool settings for instant action.
Now if I could only figure out how to move between full 61 points and just center points and back quickly...

Assuming the 5d3 and the MK4 have similar controls (I think they do) just push on the thumb selector to centre the point.

You may also be able to:
• limit the control options for faster navigation.
• switch modes based on camera orientation (portrait or landscape).

This may not be exactly what your looking for but it might help

I know on my 5D mk II in order to use the thumb selector to do this you have to configure an option in the settings. By default you end up scrolling through them with the scroll wheel. Granted, the mk II doesn't have 61 af points...

Not having played with the 5DIII this is just speculation but I have heard that the new 5 takes a lot of functionality from the 7D. The process for switching focus modes on the 7D (not including the Quick menu) is by hitting the M-Fn button by the shutter release button followed by the button on the top right of the back of the camera. The icon for this button is a square with 4 dots in it to select the function you want to change. Then hit the M-Fn button again to cycle through the AF options. That sounds more complicated than it actually is. Hope that helps.
