If anyone uses/browses flickr, including their contacts photos on a regular basis, FlickStackr is great, best Flickr based app I've seen so far.

Thought I'd share some ipad findings.

I have a SD card adapter for the ipad, I popped in two raw files types,
CR2 (from my 5D2 files) and SRW (Samsung EX1) and holy it actually imported them as an untouched viewable format! (still 20+mb per file)

Wondering if anyone has a usb adapter and has tried a Compactflash usb card reader...

This looks awesome if the delay isnt too bad!

edit: I decided to give it a try, I uploaded a video so everyone can see how it works and how delayed the changes are. I find it to be surprisingly quick, I was expecting the lag to be quite bad.

Whether this app is useful still remains to be seen. It's nice to be able to have some of these controls on a seperate screen, but from the 5 min i've been playing with it, they arent granular enough, my fingers are too fat to make the fine adjustments I would on WB etc with my mouse.

Portfolio?

Ok, I admit that my iPad hasn't arrived yet (I've got the connexion kit and the Smart Cover tho'), so I'm looking though old posts for stuff I will want to get.

Using this as one starting point. He had the same slideshow issue:
http://neilvn.com/tangents/2010/09/15/ipad-review/

I was thinking of Pixelsync to select and rate photos to sync back to Aperture, but it looks like SortShots (from the discussions in the post) does what I want too.

Still exploring ....

Anyone seen this new app for the ipad?

It allows you to calibrate your ipad screen with Spyder 3. It's currently in the app store. Darn I only have a Spyder 2... search for spyder (obviously)

Nik software released Snapseed for the iPad. If you are familiar with Nik you might really enjoy how they put control point manipulation on an iPad format. It's pretty fun with a lot of different filter effects then found on photogene. Simple quick edits on the fly.

On the topic of RAW conversion for Nikon shooters -- it can be done in-camera using the touch-up menu on newer model camera's. Then you can upload the jpeg files to the ipad for editing and sending. So no need for a RAW conversion APP. Save your $10

Yup - I have is and attached my card reader and imported RAW CR2's from my 40D with no issues. This will likely serve as my backup for images when I travel.

The Photographer's Ephemeris is available as an iPod/iPhone app. The App Store says it is compatible with iPad, but The Photographer's Ephemeris web site also says they are working on an iPad version.

It can be used without a connection, but you lose some features (including maps). It does not use the terrain maps like the desktop version.

The search function is weak. When you enter the name of a location it does not offer options just jumps to the location it thinks you mean. I also find the search feature biased to US locations. For example enter Algonquin Park and it takes you to Norfolk unless you include Ontario in the search criteria.

It is easy to use and very handy. Cost is $9.

I have the desktop version and was wondering how the iPad version behaved while not connected - thanks for that. Before I buy it for my iPad, is there an alternative anyone would recommend that is similar?

I found this one today - any others anyone has used aside from The Photgraphers Ephemeris?

Thats an interesting app -- although in Toronto, its fairly easy to figure out the direction of the sun, because it doesn't really change much from east to west. Although it does slightly change from season to season in final position.

Has anyone figured out a way to view full res images on the ipad? The built in photos app seems to want to resize every image, and frankly it does a very bad job, introducing pixellation elements, etc.

Yeah, look at portfolio, it allows you to import full res files from within iTunes.

I stumbled across a rather interesting blog post on getting photos from Lightroom onto an iPad. Explains pretty well why this is NOT a simple process, and an attempt at a solution. To quote the author: "It's a very un-Apple-like experience."
