The holding companies I've dealt with in recent years have all been a lot of trouble to pick up orders on behalf of someone else.

Also, although I've never personally had a problem with this, you could face issues at Canada Customs claiming items that have been billed in someone elses name.

Just some food for thought

cant you just put the name of the person who will receive it? say if i buy an item and name it to the person who will pick it up somewhere in buffalo and put a description that it is a gift.

BTW, just a sort of idea cause im bored as hell right now hehe. Will it work if someone here have some relatives or close friends in buffalo that we could ask to drive the items across the border? This case I think we can get away with taxes and brokerage but pay the person for the effort. Only problem here is where to find the right person.

actually, back in my car modding days, yeah, there are services that receive packages in Buffalo as i recall. People shipped tires, exhaust parts, etc. there. You can then pick them up and drive back across the border and pay your own duties, taxes, etc. and save a lot of hassle from the brokerage charges, etc. At some point, it's going to be worth it for a few guys to go and pick up a large order, saving lots of combined fees for everyone.

what we need is an authorized AlienBees reseller here in GTA. Maybe poopooegg can contact them regarding this :)

Paul C Buff doesn't have authorized resellers anywhere to the best of my knowledge, not even in the U.S. , so I doubt that they would make an exception to have an authorized reseller up here in Canada.

If they did, I would think that their "Authorized Repair" folks (KHB Photografix out in Mississauga) would get first dibs.

Adding that "middle man" i.e. an "authorized reseller" could potentially make the flash units more expensive since, instead of having just Paul C Buff making profits from the sale, you now have another hand in the proverbial cookie jar.

From their website:

NEW INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS
We regret to announce that we no longer accept orders from new customers outside the USA, Canada, and US Possessions (Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands and Guam).

For this reason, in October of 2009, Paul C Buff Inc established a partnership with 1st Line Digital Pty Ltd as an authorized dealer, operating as Paul C Buff Australia. They are primarily focused on service to Australia, New Zealand and the surrounding Pacific, however inquiries regarding delivery to other countries may be sent to them for consideration.

As a USA manufacturer that deals only direct-to-customer, our company is simply not equipped to navigate through the maze of International regulations, taxes, duties, documentation, monetary exchange, and payment obstacles associated with global direct sales. Our primary concern is to continue to provide the highest level of customer service in the industry, and we feel this change will greatly facilitate this goal.

Efforts to establish additional partnerships outside the US are currently being explored, and we will update our site regularly as information about these relationships develops. We genuinely wish to make our products available to the world, so we remain diligent in seeking customer-friendly methods of offering service outside the USA.

I actually think if they do find a reseller here in Canada, the local prices will definitely go up, that's import taxes and shit. Making them less competitive, yet I might be wrong

This is how I see it as well.

Then again, I've got my ringflash, got it in one day after I ordered it, and it produces awesome light with the moon unit so I'm not too concerned. :)

Cheers,
Dave

That's also the Gov't taking their cut of GST/PST.

I bought one AB800 then bought another one 1 month later so had to pay the worldwide saver twice.

You can use pretty much any softbox. You will just need to buy AB speedrings.

Started playing with grids a few weeks back. I love the effects.
