Speaking of memory cards, I'm back to needing a larger CF card for the D800E. Looking at the 32 GB SanDisk extreme at 90 Mb/sec around town, they were mostly above $300. Since I'm not in a hurry (SD also works and the camera's in the shop anyway) I ordered from B&H in the States. Only $150 CAD, plus $8 shipping, $32 duty, so it's still under $200. I'm still waiting for the catch.

No catch, for what ever reason cards are almost half the cost they are here, even after shipping. I dropped some serious coin for some a few 64/32GB cards but saved some as well buying from B&H.

Hard to beat prices. I ordered and paid for my card April 30.
Seems like the regular price:

I picked up one of these a few weeks back from B&H and it was $158.95 at the time, it has dropped $4. In Canada they are easily double that price.

BTW, did you get your D800E yet?

Yeah, I got it last week. It's in the shop getting an AF problem fixed. I find an AF tweak by Nikon service is a good idea for a new camera anyway.
Hey, I'm still processing pictures from China from back in OCTOBER! I won't really need it 'till the end of May anyway.

I went to pick it up today, but left it there. The AF on the single direction sensors was improved, but still not fixed (left side was worse than the right).
So I can't check that. But I was annoyed by the parallax on the window to the numbers at the bottom of the viewfinder being cut off at the top when the eye was held higher.

Market first, build later! :-)

Will be funny when in the history of Nikon they finally admit that the D800 was originally a typo where an early engineering spec sheet was sent to marketing by fax and the marketing group mistook the 26mp for 36mp because of a fingerprint or smudge, and it was out and priced before someone noticed. ;-)

Downtown camera is pretty good about providing info. They tell me exactly where I am on the list and exactly how many they receive each week. They basically didn't get any in April, and they're getting about 4 per week in May; which, sadly, puts me a few weeks away still.

I placed an order for the D800E with DC the day it was announced. I received mine a couple of weeks ago, was #3 on their waitlist.

How is it? Does it live up to all the hype?

Hahah, no idea, to be honest I haven't had a chance to use it. I set up all the options/menus/buttons yesterday but I have not taken it out for a spin yet.

Just took a test shot, resolution and detail wise, there isn't much to say, it's pretty remarkable. It might just be in my head but I find the dynamic range difference to be immediately noticeable as well (over my D700). I took a quick photo on my tripod and decided to take 2 exposures thinking i'd need to blend them to get the range I needed. When I got back to my computer I only ended up using one exposure. I'm a clone tool maniac, all this detail is going to double the amount of time I spend nit picking every photo.

It's great to have a shiny new camera with all of the features the current Nikons have (D700 was a bit outdated), but my photos won't get any better now that I have this camera, I'll just be able to print them larger, and it might save me from having to take more than one exposure sometimes. Although I always will take 2 or 3 just to be safe :).

Congrats ... still waiting to get the call for my camera. Hopefully by July. My supplier is a smaller operation than the bigger players.

Just received both of my d800's from Henry's yesterday. I actually bought a new D800 the day before on Friday from a colleague (invoice date June 8th). Just thought I'd pass the deal on a fellow tpmg'er on a new D800 with receipt for the cost of what they are new! :)

I picked up my D800E a couple of days ago, and it's very nice. However, I've decided to keep both of my D800's as the 'E' is not needed for the work I do. Less than 20 shots on it and I'll let it go for what I paid for it ($3730); it comes with the box, receipt, etc. :)

I personally didn't see much of a difference between the 2 cameras in print. I made 24x36" test prints with both using files SOOC.

Have you received your D800 David? If not can I ask when did you placed your order?
