I wish Canon shooters would stop writing reviews about Nikon products..... totally useless review.

Canon shooters have a very similar request.

Heh. Gripes over the issues with both are definitely first world problems to have.

I try to be unbiased, and before anyone jumps in I know I fail. But, in my efforts to be unbiased I have moments of lucidity where it amazes me how much either side will poke at the other. There was one video comparing the 5DIII to the D800 where they smashed the 5DIII with a sledgehammer and made "tea" (infused it I guess) with the parts followed by a laboured spit take... Sure, I have preferences but I covet both as fantastic technology/tools.

So I just re-read the review .... and ya, definately agree with Ions that his gripes are first world problems! :)

Sounds like he really didn't like the camera going in, and that is reflected in his writing. I would agree that the D800 is not going to be for everyone, but to write a review like that -- there are better ones out there, that look more in-depth at the camera and its pro's and con's.

I find a lot of these reviews are like sending vegetarians to review The Keg. Like lxdesign said, they're going in knowing they don't like it. It then becomes self justification for the reviewer and those watching that agree. This is one of the reasons why I like DigitalRev, though Kai is clearly a dink, and does have biases, he'll still say just about anything negative he feels like. Except about Leica.

But there's not a single thing wrong with Leica!! :)

"I can’t be sure but it feels like the battery doesn’t last quite as long as the one on my D700"

This guy owns a D700, how does this make him a Canon shooter?

I take most of these reviews with a grain of salt. If someone is heavily invested in Nikon and their next logical step is the D800 or D4, that is likely the route they will go. Same goes for Canon shooters with the 5D3 and 1D X. Both systems are excellent. It would take a lot to sway me to Nikon at this point as my investment in glass, flashes, accessories and familiarity with the system (warts and all) cannot be overlooked.
I hope you Nikon shooter get your D800's soon!

The author of that review is actually heavily invested into both systems. He's been full hog in both for the last 4+ years, prior to that he switched back and forth. If only we had the financial means to do that...

Yes, if only money grew on tree's... I'd have the latest Hasselblad digital gear, and a compliment of the best Nikon gear... and a Canon video rig for shooting video. :) Best of all worlds.

I suppose these Canon vs Nikon vs Sony reviews keeps manufacturers competitive. However, I would encourage first time FF buyers to research lens & accessory lineups and then make a decision. Body technology will always be more or less the same.

"Video on the D800 is a step up from the D700"

Clearly the reviewer uses his D700 a lot

The video function on the D700 was so bad that I couldn't find it.

Here's a little preliminary comparison of the D800 and D800E

Who is that guy? Ten minutes to say.... nothing much.
I got my D800E and sure enough, the outer auto-focus points don't focus properly. The ones in the middle (three wide, five high) are fine. I don't think Nikon even has a fix for this. I am finding that every camera since the D70 requires service to fix focus issues. Sigh.

Just heard that my supplier will start getting D800's coming shortly again, as Nikon is starting to ship them out again. That is good news, so hopefully I will have mine by the end of May or before.

I got my E early this week. Now it's in Nikon's shop. I wonder if they can fix the AF issue.

I heard some of the E's don't focus on the outside focus points - is that what is going on with yours?

The problem shows up in D800, the E's and D4. In my case all the single orientation AF sensors don't work (way off). The 3 x 5 cluster of double cross-hair sensors in the middle are perfect.
I ordered on Feb. 7 from Canada Camera. When the E became available, the 70-200 VRII was suddenly back ordered! But the lens is coming next week.

I heard that my store should be getting some this week.... still waiting for the call. I was told by the end of May at worse case scenario. Let's hope for sooner.
