I want to buy one, break off the lens and jam a micro four/thirds mount on it.

I love that it has an optical vf. And if it's going to have a fixed lens then a 35mm equiv is just about perfect. Just curious on the price...

Pretty innovative. Still, would hate to stop shooting film...

Only if Nikon makes one of these.

"Poor" is a relative term.
Apparently, if you believe hearsay and other online murmurs, this thing is going to cost about $1500-$1700 by the time it hits the street. That's a lot of money to dole out for a fixed lens cam...

It really depends on the image quality at normal or high ISO, if they are great then it could definitely be a fantastic street shooter. At the moment the slight lag and poor image in the electronic view finders gives me motion sickness and a headache.

if Olympus drops the ball on their next Pen body and this thing turns out to be as good as people hope it is, I may cut my losses with m43 and go with this for my travel/carry-around camera.

I want one, but the price is probably more than I can afford. If this one goes under $1000, it would selllike hot cakes.

Unless it has an amazing sensor and a stellar lens, it won't be able to compete on specs alone at that price. And for me personally, the retro styling and controls aren't enough to justify a $1500 price tag. We'll see, though...

Indeed. To me, anything over a grand eliminates it as a general use camera because there are far better options. Someone who needs the image quality that thing better provide in such a specific way (compact yes, but fixed lens) is in too narrow a niche for Fuji to make much money on it. Certainly too narrow to grab my interest. I know I have a poor grasp of what things cost these days but I figured at $500-$700 I would consider picking one up. At 2-3x times that? Useless to me.

Yeah, still cheaper than anything Leica branded.

Yeah, for me it would have to be in the $500 to $800 range to even consider it.

Based on the Yen conversion it's going to be $1700 US. I hope it comes out a more realistic price. Puts it very close to the Leica X1 (but I'd rather have this with its faster lens and ovf).

Not really.
Look at the deals that can be had on film Leica bodies - M2's are going for less than $700 USD.. there's an M3 (beater) on Craigslist right now that's $400 CAD.

Those cameras are tanks.
Add a "cheap" Leica 50mm and you're well under $1200 CAD :)

Cheers,
Dave

Canon Rumours guy is at Photokina and stopped by the Fuji booth

[quote]How Much?!
Initial reports of the pricing were high. We can expect the camera to cost

Personally I think this type of camera is meant to be marketed to the hipster-artsy-i-went-to-art-school types who want to look a certain way when taking average shots. mind you if this camera is any good it will allow them to take above average shots :P
