D600 aside.... whatever it turns out to be it looks like its gonna be FX .... lets leave those comments and speculations to the other D600 post and [NR].

now, Do you guys think there will be a semi pro replacement for the D300s ?

The pattern seems to be breaking with the d600 release (if true at all) but it would be good to see a D400 crop in a body of a D800 (just like 300/700).

I did think there would be a D400 as I do think there is a market for pro-crop bodies, but as you said, the pattern appears to be shifting as Nikon continues to blur/cannibalize lines. It's quite possible there will be one but I'm not sure why anyone would want to buy one with a D600 around at a similar price point. I wouldn't (if speculation proves true).

Yes, I have a strange feeling that this is the end for semi-pro DX.

Just like the D2X/s got replaced with FX D3.

One thing that doesn't make sense... D300s and D700 are / will soon to be discontinued.

For all the people that want "all-alloy" body will have to buy D800 ?

D7000 is out (front plastic vs all-round alloy not to mention its too small in my hands)

The only true explanation is ..... D600 will be full mag alloy FX ?

They cant force everyone to buy a $3000 D800 body.

But people like myself who wouldn't mind an upgrade, but can't afford to upgrade all of their lenses would love an updated crop sensor. Granted I'd like to go full frame, but that means spending around $3000 in replacement lenses and the D800 is just more than I need in megapixel. The rumored D600 also would be a though sell as I want a more pro body that can take my non af-s lenses, otherwise even more $$ on lenses would be needed to replace others. Either way upgrading to full frame will be pricey and I'd like to know more of Nikon's road map.

Right now I'm sticking with my D300s, great little camera snd will see how things shake out over the next year and decide. To be honest I have my eye on that Fujifilm xpro-1 and prime lenses.

J.

Nikon has proven to us that high MP can be done with the D800 by improving on the D700 in terms of noise with 3x the amount of Megapixels (12 vs 36), everyone was always saying: Argh these megapixel wars /races. It only produces more noise (As proven with the Canon 50D release where the older 40D was actually performing better).

All these megapixels for normal shooting are a waste (good thing for the built in crop mode and smaller Raw), but in the tele-end, cropped, the high MP might just come in handy.

I also use D300s. My wife's D7K has slight edge on ISO and MP density (Example: I got a better full Moon shot with her D7000 than my D300s at the time because of the higher MP count of the D7K)

There is one shocker though. The D3200 has 24mp sensor.. again 24 whoppin megapixels !!

.. and it's the cheapest Nikon DSLR available in the current lineup ..

Well hopefully enough ppl have purchased the D800 so that in couple of years it will be affordable 2nd hand... and the DX lenses will be used in crop mode :(
