I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a inexpensive tripod? Looking for a second tripod to use for my IPAD 2 using one of these Image As it will only be used in that configuration periodically I would like it to also be able to function as a backup tripod for my camera gear. Would need to support a D2X + 70-200 lens at most.

What is your max price? Do you need just the legs or the full kit? Henry's site is very good for searches.

I find a Velbon Sherpa is a good trade off between stiffness, weight and price. Often on sale for around $100. Anything else I have looked at in the price range seems to have legs that vibrate.

Thanks Will check out the Velbon. I had been looking at the dealextreme and ebay deals but always afraid to be the ginny pig.

Not sure what cheap means but I have the Vanguard Alta Pro 263 AT and SBH100 Ball head. Love it. Very useful and great features.

$219 CAD with head. not sure if it will carry the weight and all that.

As a side note: I found the centre column a little wobbly until I tightened a screw in the base of centre column itself. It is now very steady. Worth a look.

I second the recommendation for Vanguard tripods (I use one). I don't know if they fit in your "cheap" definition, though.

http://www.iphone2in1tripodmount.com/ is the link to the mount I ordered.

The vangaurd is a touch more that I was hoping but i am thinking that if i want it to double as a back up for regular camera gear it may be the way to go

Vistek sells them as part of using an ipod as a remote for capture one software.

as another option the Joy Factory iPad holders are really sleek and very strong. Vistek sells the line of them: http://www.vistek.ca/search/-The+Joy+Factory/ipad.aspx

Benro, off of eBay from a reputable seller in Hong Kong. I picked on up for 40% off of what they sell locally (Vistek or B+H).

Music stores that sell iPad music accessories have a holder that attaches the iPad to mic stands, like the IK Multimedia iKlip; Saved By Technology has it for $39...they also have an iKlip Mini for iPod Touch/iPhone.

Another vote for Vanguard tripod here. It sells at Henry's for $193 tripod and head. I think you can get it without the head if necessary. It might be overkill for what you need. But it is one sweet tripod.
