I'm taking my Lowepro Nova 160 with my DSLR, + 1 lens, a P&S and a bunch of accessories in it. I'm putting that into a Heys hard shell carry on along with a bunch of other stuff. Am I going to have to pull my camera out (which means open the Heys, AND open the Lowpro) and stick it in a bin for the xray like a laptop?

Nope, i got sent to LA and Vegas last month for photography and I just leave my camera bag inside the hard shell heys case for xray

You should be good with leaving everything in the case. The only problem I've ever had was with bringing a monopod on the plane because the security staff didn't know wtf it was.

Just got back from Reno and never had the camera out during screening. They only want laptops out of the bag.

And don't forget to remove any liquids from your pockets. I forgot a bottle of pop in my jacket and got into extra trouble.

At least in San Fran they still have signs up for screening your film.

Only laptops need to be removed but they may still ask you to take it out after xray inspection.

I always get asked remove the lens caps but they allow me to have my gear in its case for the X-ray.
