You guys have probably seen this ad on kijiji or craigslist. Just curious to know if you guys would dish out $700-$800 for a classic 5d. i'm intrigued by the image quality and full frame sensor.

Depending on the number of shutter actuations, the price could be reasonable.

BTW, was told the shutter count is around 10k. You will have to verify that yourself.
there is no way of verifying it, if I remember correctly

I doubt that it would only have ~10000 actuations considering the wear and tear on the body. Sounds a bit fishy to me.

thanks for the input everyone. i too think the shutter count is a bit fishy considering the wear and tear/the fact that it came from a studio that specialized in sports events. with the possibility - as potatoeye suggested - that the actuations can't be verified, i don't think it would be wise to take a gamble on it.

+1 on the shutter count

The history also seems shady-- if it's been bumped around it hasn't been cared for, so even if the shutter count is truly 10k, it might have been dropped at some point. Also, I'm not a sports photographer, but I wouldn't choose a 5d over a 1 series for sports not only because of the AF but also because the 1 series can take more knocks if you're running around chasing cars or balls or whatever it was used for...

plus if they are shooting ports with it they would probably be firing it on continuous too which makes the low shutter count even less believable

I wouldn't go for this particular transaction, but the 5d is a great camera and full frame is great to shoot with (in case you see another opportunity).

Hey there's a dude on craigslist selling one for what seems like a reasonable price $800 bux:

http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/yrk/pho/2349932345.html

Same deal here, ask all the questions about history etc. I think there was some recall about the mirror box for the 5D, make sure to ask about that. Maybe 5Dc owners here know more about what to ask, recalls etc ?

The only one I know of is the mirror fix, which glues down the mirror and prevents it from detaching during operation. It was originally reported by 5D users a few years ago in hot/humid countries, their mirrors would loosen and smash. Just bring into Canon Canada up at Dixie and they'll glue it down for you for free. Took a few days.
