did anyone notice a significant price jump on the price of the 5D mkII?

or is it just me?

Henry's lists the body only at $2,749.99

I was sure I saw it around $2,499 just a couple weeks ago?

yes as you know , the canadian dollar relative to the US dollar is now $1.04 and rising therefore stores like Henry's have increased their prices. :D

Actually if you go Merkle or Vistek it is now $2429.

that makes no sense.. a higher Canadian dollar should in theory lower the CDN retail price

I realize there are Tariffs that need to be paid on imported items, but it seems like a rather large increase if you ask me

Related to Japan quake/tsunami issue? Did Canon scale back production? Less supply?

I was being sarcastic. THey will always have an excuse to have high prices. You best buy from the USA.

Actually Merkles $2420 is $20 less than B&H today listed price. I also noticed Merkle has lower prices than B&H on several items,. D7000 is one of them.

Hopefully prices go back down soon.

There's been postings on other forums on shortages of 1D MKIV and 5D MKII bodies in the major US stores. Funny 'cause I looked at a couple Canadian stores and they had stock.

Seller's market?

Usually the Canadian sellers tell us that the reason we pay more is because the products have to be shipped to Canada from the USA. So does this mean that some of the overstock is going to be shipped back again from CDN to the USA?

On another note, recent articles in The Star talk about how Canadian retailers have not closed the pricing gap with the US.

if it is tsunami related it's a short term problem and I would hope prices would come down after they catch back up..

but somehow I have a feeling we won't see the price drop back down

I was just about ready to purchase a MkII with my tax refund too. Not sure I can justify paying that much now :?

Im just wondering, after the Japanese earthquake , tsunami and nuclear reactor meltdown has settled down a bit, and new deliveries of radioactive cameras are made, prices should go down?

It has been circling the net for a while now that the prices would rise as a result of the devastation in Japan.

I have also been scouting out prices for the 5D mark II for a few months. A couple of weeks before the quake, Henry's had it for $2399!

Today's prices:
Vistek $2599
Henry's $2749.99
B&H $2699
Merkle $2429

OMG - you must be kidding, Vistek/Merkle prices lower than B&H??? It might be time to buy.

Honestly why do so many fall for the B&H is always the cheapest crap??

It is like falling for Wal-Mart having the lowest pricing on everything........they don't, its an urban myth that they do.
