I've been tinkering with video so my rig is as follows:

- Glidecam HD2000
- Manfrotto 577 quick rapid connect
- 5D MKII and mostly my 16-35mm. I take my bottom grip off when using the Glidecam just to save on weight.
- Rode Videomic Pro

I did some shooting where I was using a friend's wireless lav mic but the receiver only has a belt clip. Wish there was a hotshoe mounted version. I guess I could invest in an external recorder and try and sync the audio. I don't recall the 5D MKII having timecoding so how does one accurately sync an external audio source to the video? I guess I could google that.

Most people use a clapper board. That way, the audio waveform has a definite spike.

Most good editors allow you to then set an in point or let you align your audio tracks that way.

I've used a Steady Tracker Extreme on a feature film set and was very pleased with it, fast set up and very good results:

The only downside of it is it's size, otherwise it's a great stabilizing solution.

For my 5DII I I just recently bought a Hague HD Motion-Cam Stabilizer HDMC and am happy with it so far, it's weight based so takes much longer to set up and balance, but it's much smaller than the STE and more useful for my usage:

The Hague DSLR Motion-Cam DMC is also a good decent (and def cheaper) option, however you can only use it with DSLR cameras and other light weight cameras and can't support much weight. and I've read reviews about how you can't pivot 360 around the gimble and tested it at the shop and didn't feel right to me, hence I picked up the HDMC which can support more weight and also make it easy to do 360 pans in any direction

I'd recommend DV Shop, as you can test as much as you want and they're very friendly and helpful.

p.s I'd strongly advise you switching the Rodemic with the Rodemic Pro if you're planning to do any film (dialogue) work, VM is great for doc style recordings, but the VMP is great with the pre gain amp, shot 6.5 hours of auditions with it on Saturday and loved the audio quality.

@Carlton: read the comments section, I've been following Guy Cochran's advice and it's working great:

Thanks! Yup, switched to manual audio, dropped the level to about 2-3bars and +20db on the VideoMic Pro. It's an amazing mic! Used it on my trip last week. :-)
