Hi, does anybody know where I can find a cheaper alternative similar as the Hoodman Loupe
http://www.doubleexposure.com/HoodmanLoupe.shtml

eBay does not have anything similar and I am not particularly interested in the DIY approach. Thank you.

If the optical quality is good that's not expensive for what it does and you don't want to DIY.

I've used my friend's but it's useless unless your LCD is very good (i.e. it can differentiate sharp images from soft).

I am kinda surprise there is no copy cat out there. Friend of mine is using a plastic ketchup bottle cutout (with duct tape on the outside). Kinda strange to smell ketchup when you put your face to that thing.

Unfortunately, this is more than a novelty for people like myself who has poor eye sight.

I thought zooming in while previewing will make the loupe more or less redundant, why do we need the loupe?

Its may use is too allow you to put your eye right up close while blocking out all extraneous light. This allows you to use it in bright sunlight and without glasses

I'm guessing you don't do a lot of low level shooting in piles of muddy asbestos. :-)

I was out at a shoot today and just saw one of these things.

It was really nice, and as described by someone else gives a slide looking feel to the shot.

Now I sorta am interested in one, but maybe in the past 13 months an ebay knockoff has come out.

It has a totally different implementation when you are shooting video. Specially shoulder mounted stuff. Im really looking for an alternative myself, something with a better eyecup.

this is the one major reason I would want one.. can't see the screen properly at all in bright sun

Wow ... this is an OLD thread! Now that I do the odd video clip - I could see myself getting one of these.

Nice! Heck of a lot cheaper than a Hoodman. I was toying with the idea of getting a Varavon Pro Finder but they're a bit pricey.

If anyone here is looking to do video with their DSLR. I would suggest http://www.zacuto.com/z-finder-dslr-viewfinder

The pro versions are nice. Its kinda pricey but is much better than a hoodman.

I have a Zacuto knock-off on my video rig. Works well didn't break the bank at $50. Can't find the link at the moment but a review can be found at chessycam.com

Gini Rigs from Korea is a fraction of the cost of a RedRock or Zacuto and supposedly well made too.

There's an eBay seller named camtreeshop that sells video rigs for pretty reasonable prices too.

This is the loupe I got. $50 on ebay. Works very well, kinda like looking at a 46" monitor from 10ft away.
