Hi, I don't know much about the Nikon warranty and I have a few questions hoping someone here can help me out here before I spend $ on the 14-24 and other stuff

- can the Nikon warranty be carried over to the 2nd owner? assuming it is purchased from an authorized Canadian retailer
- if the lens is a grey market one, would Nikon Canada service the lens if I have trouble with it.
- does all Nikon glass comes with 5 yr warranty or just some glass.

thank you all in advance!!

1) No
2) No
3) It would say on the box. Only some lenses I believe... but I may be mistaken.

Even as an Olympus owner I know the answer is NO for Nikon!

See this webpage:
http://help.nikon.ca/app/answers/detail/a_id/5698/~/nikon-canadian-service-warranty---digital-imaging-products

Note the following from #5:
"This warranty is NON-TRANSFERABLE and applies to the original purchaser of the product from an Authorized Nikon Canada Dealer."

The way you might get around this if the original owner did NOT fill out and send in the warranty card, and they give you the original receipt, as long as they bought the camera from an Authorized Canadian Nikon dealer.

Also worth noting for the 2nd question from the original post:
"Nikon digital products sold in Canada have a warranty which is honoured by Nikon Canada offices, this warranty is not supported by Nikon offices outside of Canada. Nikon digital products sold outside of Canada also have localised warranties and are not supported in Canada."

In other words, if it is grey market there's no (local) warranty (if any warranty)!

Even if you paid Nikon Canada, they can refuse to service grey market products, if they go by the book.

Quote:
If you purchase Nikon branded photographic or digital imaging product from anyone other than an authorized Nikon Canada dealer, beware that Nikon Canada does not, and will not, provide parts, repair services, warranty service or technical support for any such product.

Nikon Canada only offers repair services or parts (including warranty service and technical support) for products purchased from one of its Authorized Nikon Dealers.

oh wow. Thanks so much for the info guys!!!
So I guess Nikon can tell by the serial # if the lens is sold in Canada or not so as to determine if they will service it?

Does ANYONE fill out those warranty cards? I have them all along with the receipts, but I never fill them out. So that I can sell the lenses/gear to anyone I want. I don't see any downsides to doing it this way. Is there any?

I believe ALL Nikon lenses carry a five year warranty, and bodies are 2 years.

Like most other purchases, I think warranty cards must be filled out within x# of days of purchase to be valid? no?

I am pretty sure that you need an original bill of sale to accompany any warranty claims... so whether you registered or not - warranty is from the date of purchase. I am not 100% sure, but I have a feeling thats how it works.

I got lucky i guess. I've used a D70s pass 100k...then sold it and upgraded a few years back.

Anyone can fill in a warranty card at any time with any date on it...the receipt is the REAL proof of purchase date, and location of purchase (if bought at an authorized Nikon dealer or not).
