Hi everyone,

I was wondering if someone can help me out with my interval meter on my D200. I just can't seem to get it to do what I want it to do.

I'm trying to take ten 30 second exposure with 1 second between shots

I set my interval meter to have an interval of 1 second.
Then I set the Intvl*Shots to equal 010x1=10

Shouldn't that give me ten 30 second shots at 1 second intervals between each shot? When I tried it I get only 1 shot.

I assumed that the interval was the time between shots but I thought perhaps that it was the time between when the shot was actually taken to the time the second shot was taken. So I then tried an interval of 31 seconds which would give me 1 second between shots.

Nope, that didn't work either. It was giving me 31 seconds between shots.

I'm a bit perplexed and would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Zeekid

This is from D200 menu
----------------------
Interval
Enter time between shots. Press multi selector left or right to highlight
hour, minute, or second, press up or down to change. Note
that camera will not be able to take photographs at specifi ed interval
if interval is shorter than shutter speed or time required to
record images.
---------------------

My understanding on the menu is the camera will take a picture at the interval you specific disregarding the shutter speed the camera is set at, so a 31seconds interval is on the right track... However, having said that, I would suggest try a shorter shutter speed first because I remember D200, by default, will apply subtraction NR to long exposure photos, so a 30 seconds exposure will take 60 seconds. Beside, it helps cut down the trial and error time, and help you quickly establish the logic of the programming.

Hm, I missed that note in my D200 menu.

I had actually turned off my NR. I tried an interval of 31 and 32 seconds thinking that with an exposure of 30 seconds I'd get 1 to two seconds between shots.

Unfortunately it's not working that way. It seems to be giving me an interval of 32 seconds between shots. And if I try an interval of 2 seconds it still doesn't give me what I'm looking for.

I'm trying to figure out how to use the Interval Timer for this weekends night shoot on a D700, looking at trying to shoot 30 sec exposures for an hour (about 120ish exposures) and then stacking them.

From what I've read at this dpr link I'm not sure it will work like I'm thinking. There is another suggestion to lock the camera off and just continue shooting for an hour which may be easier than setting the Interval Timer though.

That's what I'm trying to do as well.

Use short shutter speed and short interval to establish the baseline and the logic of the menu setting first before venturing into the 30 sec shutter.

Camera to manual, set shutter speed to 30 seconds. Set aperture. Set drive mode to continuous, lock remote, come back in an hour.

Ah, yes, good tip Hotwire. I totally forgot I could do that with a remote.
