Hi all, my wife needs a new ultra compact point and shoot camera.

Currently she uses a Canon SD1000 which is a great little camera but we now want something that is at least 10megapixels and does HD video -at least 720p. My only other requirements are that there is very little shutter lag and the image quality is very good. Image Stabilization and extended zoom capabilities would be a plus.

I bought and returned a Canon SD940IS since there was a noticeable delay in pressing the shutter button and taking the picture ( at least for me) and the image quality was not up to my standards.

So is there anything out there that meets my needs? :) Or am I asking for too much from an ultra compact point and shoot? My Panasonic GF1 would fit the bill if it were half the size.

Sony WX-1

Best Buy had a price error and it was $120....snapped one up very quickly.

Regular its $229.

Sony TX5 is even more compact.

Both are EXMOR R CMOS sensors, backlit. Very fast for a point and shoot and great low light quality, surprisingly great HD video.

Best $120 spent EVER.

I think I agree with Mr. Walczak. My friend has the older version and the results seem great too :)

Thanks for the suggestions.

I normally stay away from Sony due to their proprietary memory stick.

Panasonic ZS5 is a nice camera but definitely not Ultra Compact. Need something smaller.

I recently bought a Canon SD4000 for the wife. 10MP,do 720p with Stereo. Also have a few funny shooting mode (miniature, fisheye effect).
No raw, just jpg.

Can't compare the pic with even a 5 year old 30D, but it fit in a shirt pocket and has metal shell. The HD video is quite good.

Buttons are too small for my fingers, but I have to say it's very handy when I don't feel like transporting any DSLR.

It's marketing as hyper sensitive, low noise... well I guess in the point and shot world may be it's true. Not so in DSLR domain.
