Hi everybody,

I'm looking to pick up a new camera bag, and I've narrowed it down to the Lowepro Fastpack and Slingshot. I know the main difference is the single strap vs. the double strap. If anyone has experience with either bag, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Oh man, I'm in the exact same scenario! I'm looking at the 200 level ones. The reason I want the fastpack is because of how much gear the bag can carry - I think I'd be more comfortable with the fastpack than a sling.

But then again, the sling is on sale at Henry's

How are you planning to use it? I had the slingshot 100 with a d70 + kit lens and after a couple days of traveling with it my shoulders were really hurting. What i did liked was the easy access and the raincoat it had. plus it was easy to just swing off my shoulder. still would prefer double straps.

I currently own a slingshot 200. If I'm not carrying it for a long time, its alright. It doesn't affect my shoulders at all. If I'm carrying it for several hours at a time. It can really make your shoulders sore. It really depends on how much gear you plan to carry.

I carry a d90, 105vr, 12-24, 35 1.8, sb-600, battery charger, AA battery charger, plus extra AA batteries for flash, and usb cables. It fills up my bag. I can barely put anything else in there.

I'd recommend the other bag, the 2 strap one if you are carrying around more than just a lens, flash, and camera.

btw, I used to have a slingshot 300, and I used to have even heavier gear in there. I don't learn from my mistakes.

I have the Slingshot 200AW and found the same as the others - over a couple of hours use it became uncomfortable. I went to the Kata 3N1-30 which offers you the option to go with the single strap sling style, or the two straps when more suitable. It was more comfortable.

I am not familiar with the Fastpack.

Now my favorite small pack is the Lowepro Flipside 400AW. This a backpack style (no sling) with the entry to the camera compartment on the harness side instead of the back. This helps provide some security on the street, and when you are out on the trail you can put the pack down and get gear out without having your harness in the dirt.

I have a Slingshot 200 that I am going to sell in a couple of weeks. PM me if interested.

It's a great versatile bag for a moderate amount of gear for a moderate amount of time for a moderate level of activity, but as others mentioined, the single shoulder strap makes it tiring to wear after a few hours especially if it has a lot of gear in it. I have worn it fully loaded for 6 or 7 hours ending up tired but not really worse for wear.

The reason I will be selling it is that I need something bigger, not because I don't like it.

Have you seen http://www.cambags.com?

I have a slingshot type bag and a fastpack 250. I find slingshot type bags uncomfortable. The fastpack is quite comfortable and versatile .. no complaints.

I got the Fastpack 250 because I also bring a laptop from time to time. It can definitely carry a lot more than it looks, if space is a concern.

Go with Kata 3 in 1 bag. You get single strap and the double strap.
