I saw this in the paper the other day. The idea is pretty cool and it seems to work fine with point and shoot cameras but how would you feel attaching your big dslr on there?

If I were to buy this product I was thinking of attaching my d200 with 11-16 on the hood of my jeep and get some cool off-roading shots. nothing crazy obviously.

As long as your camera setup doesn't exceed 8lbs!

Personally I rather use a three suction cup mount system instead, a lot more sturdier and less prone to it bobbing around.

Otherwise, something like a GoPro HD video camera would be a perfect thing to use with this IMO.

I kept my 20D specifically for mounting on cars and bikes with the Fat Gecko. The only problem I've ran into at the moment is not having a wide enough lens for it. I'm using a 18-55 but still not wide enough. The EF-S 10-22mm would be perfect but I'm not willing to spend too much money on a lens that might get destroyed.

Here is the Fat Gecko and 20D mounted on my car doing some testing. Going down to Deal's Gap again in July and will mount it on my friend's bikes and trigger remotely.

I also have a GoPro wide which is great but lacks control. Once you set the mode you want you just let it run.

The GoPro comes with a single suction cup that sticks like glue and can pull dents out of car doors. The Fat Gecko suction cups are identical to the GoPro version except there are two cups. It is very sturdy.

Awesome. Thanks for the info

Looks like a pretty decent product at a decent price.

The girl from Delkin that was at the Henry's show said that it could hold a 200-400 mounted with a D300. I believed her, but I would never trust it myself. That being said - for a lighter weight kit - you should be ok. I like the idea of 3 vs 2 suction cups.

3 is overkill. 3 suction cup mounting system will limit where you can mount it. Why would anyone want to mount a telephoto on this?

If you mathematically calculate the possible forces acting on the camera, with a two mount system, you cannot ensure that all vibration is eliminated, especially if you're wanting to use a longer shutter delay to capture a lot of motion blur in the background, three mounts are required, assuming that the rig is solid, and more so, if the camera isn't exactly light.

Of course if you're capturing video, then it's not a huge requirement to have three and two is sufficient.

You can have a 5 suction cup system and it still won't make a difference. The camera will still pick up vibrations from the road and engine. The length of the arm from the mount to the camera will also play a role because camera will also vibrate in the wind regardless of the mount.

I've done long exposures and they came out great.
