I use a very simple method that permits me to find most shots in a couple of minutes, while using Picasa to view them. My files are organized in folders that have the following naming convention:

YYMMDD_location

I get to the group of shots I need in seconds, then quickly scroll through them. In some cases I create a sub-folder for the type of shot ("track", "candid", or "landscape").

Another way of handling it, if you're fairly web savvy, would be to set upa web server and use a gallery script like Gallery2 because it is searchable via entered keywords. I haven't bothered with keywords yet, but this is what my gallery looks like:

This has the potential of serving up the images to anyone within your company, with access limits set by user and group.

I don't use tagging ..... I have been keeping my folders organized by year, then by shoot name... I can usually find my images fairly easily. There have been a few situations where I can't find stuff - but its pretty rare.

Hello
I was in a similar situation like you .....
I organize folders by year month wise and subject wise...
Still when you handle lot of file ....I found difficulty in locating a particular file...

The only solution which is helping me right now, is injecting keywords in my raw file....Using photo mechanic..

Everybody has their own ways of organizing and which ever works for them

I would still organize them by year month and events and inject keywords to help me search like global tags ..like
blue clouds or orange flowers or for eg say jazz you might have shot jazz parties and festivals and theaters which will all show up, which is one way of doing it ..

Good luck
