Does anyone here own a Gorilla Pod? I was told that they are really useful and is essentially like a Tripod but is more flexible. They are sold at Henry's and I was wondering if they are worth getting. I don't own a tripod at the moment but don't want to spend alot of money on one. Anyone have any suggestions? :)

Thanks!

They are not a good replacement for a tripod. But with a small ball head attached to the heavy duty version they make a good travel tripod because you can use them in places they don't allow a tripod. I used a borrowed one on a trip to paris and got a few good shots with it.

they just a fancier bean bag. They are not a tripod replacement by any means.

In some situations a bean bag could be faster/easier/more convenient to use but I don't think there are a lot of situations like this.

If you want to experiment go to a grocery store and buy a bag of rice. Just make sure you get a cloth bag. If this doesn't work for you you can always eat the rice.

Cheers,
Radu

I like to use them to hang speedlites off of. Comes in handy for off camera wireless flash set up.
