50D body is 19XX click right now about 4-5 months old, 2nd owner.

24-105 3rd owner, UT (2005) date code. A bit worn but works fine.

Thinking 1k for lens and 900 for body. Does that sound like a good idea?

Want 7D for couple of reasons:

1) Video

2) Better weather sealing (didn't realize I wanted this till I went to niagara and had to avoid parts of the falls cause worried about the mist

3) It's new and I am a gear head.

if you sell them separately, you'll get more money than in a kit

Umm, that's a good tip. I'll do that.

What's a fair price though? Of course I want to get total as close to the price before tax of a 7D body as possible.

Why don't you keep the 24-105 4L as it would be a great fit for the 7D?

I have this lens and like it a lot!

I just don't find I use the 24-105 that much. I have a 17-50 and a 70-200 both being f2.8 tends to work better for me. I don't mind weight so much so carrying the 17-50 and the 70-200 seems to work out better for me then the 24-105 which always seems isn't wide enough at the wide end and not long enough at the long end.

If you got the money to spend, go for it. But as usual, better gear won't give you more interesting photos.

I think you mean:
"better gear won't necessarily give you more interesting photos"

Of course better gear don't always do the trick. Not thinking it will. Just like the better weather sealing (of course not to the level of say the K7) and the 100% view finder.
