yes, the blue walls are a giveaway for anyone who's been to Chefchaouen.

the shot with the older gentlemen in the wheelchair was taken near the Prater in Vienna during a week long music festival... I think it was the summer of 2004.

I won't be posting it here if it wasn't a Candid.

This was one of the several pictures I caught of the couple during their first dance. (You can see people in the shadow at the back). I had the bride's back to me, but she turned for one micro second to look at the cheers from her family on the right side, and I happened to snap it. 100% Candid.

Would you like to see other pictures from the first dance, or will you take my word for it?

The bride and groom were over the moon at seeing this picture, and that's what it's all about. So I'll take this as a compliment.

The following was a from the hip shot taken with the view finder closed on my not so stealth Mamiya C220. Both shots used expired in 2000 film. The top was ISO 400 and the bottom was ISO 160

Yes you can take it as a compliment in that it's a really nice shot. Just to me (and maybe your opinion differs), going to an event to take photographs (in this case a wedding), just doesn't capture the "candid" spirit to me where people are doing everday things (and typically mundane things). If this is your definition, you could have a pro taking photographs at a wedding and every shot that he takes that isn't setup or where he doesn't direct it (such as when dancing) be considered candid - is it?

Yes. My definition of candid is any unstaged picture, where the normal flow of events is not interrupted by the photographer qualifies as a Candid.

That is what I thought was meant by CANDID - but a check of the word in a dictionary proves elsewise. A candid photo is any photo where the subject is UNSTAGED - so the subject can be aware of the fact s/he is being photographed. So you learn so much here - nnow I know what 'street urchin' and 'candid' mean.
OK -enough of the pedantic exercises in etymology. I'd rather be commenting on the photos instead of what certain words mean.

Since when did wikipedia become the authority on anything?

Personally I wouldn't use a wedding photograph as a candid as the bride and groom are on stage the whole day and the shot in question does not look any different then a staged wedding shot. But then again someone else obviously thinks it a candid so maybe it is?

The following shot for me is on the border line between a candid and a street portrait as I had to wait awhile until she was less self conscious of the camera.
