Third column was "can't make it" right?

If not, and it's anything like a second waiting list... Can I add my name to that :P

Oh i thought the reference was to an event.
Creative Imaging has some nice studios, but they really jacked up their rates for rental over a year ago. I used to rent from them when i started.

Is there a way to come and observe this shoot? I am just a beginner photographer and can learn a lot from observing. I will not be taking pictures. Might be able to lend a hand with the set set-up?

Hi Tracy, right now i think the space will be kinda full as is with the group, model, make up, and the big set. I'll let ya know if it looks like we can fit an assistant in.

OK, it took some serious looking around, but I have scored 9 giant bags of teddy bear stuffing for the clouds!!!

I am probably on some FBI watch list now for possibly making home-made giant creepy teddy bears but at least we have the cloud material now! Yay! LOL

Probably the flue getting you, but I thought I would point out that both January 21 and 28th are Saturdays not Sundays.

I realize this is an old thread but wanted to mention that this model did not actually show up for the shoot. She called to say she could not find the CIS studio (It's a large red brick building at Queen and DVP, very easy to find). Then stopped answering her phone.

So yeah... just a forewarning. We ended up shooting with the MUA as a reserve model.

Hmmm, thanks for the heads up. Sending you a PM for details.
I had a thousand models reply to my casting, but now the wardrobe is already sized for this model so it limits options. We'll see.

I dont know about the others, but i thought it was a pretty good learning experience in building an actual set and using it for a shoot. We ended up using 8 of the 9 giant bags of stuffing i tracked down and using a 6 light set up, it was obvious, we could have used some more equipment.

More colored gels, flags, barn doors, etc. would have helped control and direct the light more, but otherwise, it turned out all right! IMO
We used in all, 6 strobes, 2 diy flags, overhead boom, octabox, 2 grids, barn doors, gels, one reflector-flag, numerous chairs, stands, etc.

Here's a couple candids so you can see how the clouds turned out, one of the group taken by Sapna, who arrived late since she had to work (Simon was doing his "glamour pose")
and one by our MUA/Hair Stylist with the bb playbook while we were shooting.

Now, I'm wondering if i could pull off that circus set to shoot in. hmmmmmm....

Looks like the beginning of success to me!
The clouds look a little thick, how did they react to the light?
Did the diffuse/disperse at all?

yeah, that was a bts photo obviously without flashes firing. The clouds were a bit thick (like the sample photos at the start of this thread) but we thinned out the edges and shot some lights on the tips to help light the tops of them. Hopefully we got some shoot through.

Sorry to interrupt but I just found something odd about this model because she only replies with one word sentences at one week intervals on Model Mayhem which is a clear sign of a flake. She also cancelled last minute with a fellow photog but it was with good reason. So now that I hear this, I am gonna cancel shoot and stay clear of this model.

Looks like you had fun at the shoot and looks like a great idea.

I dont want someone to be trashed unfairly so i will give my input here for what's it is worth to be fair.

When setting up the shoot, the model was very good at communicating. Not one word answers at all in my experience here.
Details of the shoot were discussed, what wardrobe items she had, what items she would bring, etc. all very good, detailed responses and communication.

Only during the week leading up to this Saturday, i had trouble contacting model, which is when i decided to make the switch.
The day before the shoot, the original model contacted me with an explanation as to why she was out of contact for those 2-3 days, but by then it was too late. So take that for whatever it's worth.

I will also say that the model we shot with, Mindy, was friendly, enthusiastic, and easy to work with. (she also arrived 15 minutes early ha). So thumbs up to Mindy.

Maybe she was trashed unfairly and I will apologize for my actions so I will tread lightly here. When she replied to me, she was also very detailed and organized with what she expects but I will not retract something that is the truth. I always give the benefit of the doubt and was interested in shooting with her but not now. I made that comment because somebody directed me to this post and was trying to help me get information about this model. When I hear on more than one occasion that a model doesn't show, I take that into my decision making especially when I have to pay a model 50.00 hr. I am glad that Garfield gave the warning and helped me with my decision.

I will apologize again and will keep that to myself next time.

I was not saying you were unfairly trashing anyone. I just wanted to lay out my experience, which was a bit different, so people can make their own mind. Your input is welcome by me and i expect, others too. No need to apologize in my opinion. thanks! :)

Thanks Chopper but after reading your wise post, I did feel I was a little out of line and wasn't very professional of me. I can't wait to see some of these pics come out though because it looked like a great shoot.

Was that Mindy Lacktin as your model? I wanted to shoot her last year but both of us got pretty busy last year. Good to hear good things about her if that was her.
