Cool shot. Looks like u color shifted a bit to the pinkish blue side.

Well, with the experimenting, i think we all understand now how to do a full uv shoot in the future. With more lights!! Lol

Looks like a random freak from one of my parties

Ed, here's some inspiration for your UV artists
http://www.flickr.com/photos/beobeyond/

One thing I would note on UV reactive paint is try not to cover the whole face with it, little accents and details usually make for much stronger effect, I've been in the scene for 8 years but never thought of taking pictures of it. I think I should start

Thanks PE. Now that i see how it reacts, I plan on doing a full shoot (or more) with UV for sure.

Actually, her face is not totally covered in paint. Just her eyes, etc.. The post processing on the above is a little bright, stylistically, so her skin is reflecting some of the blueish UV light as well. That's what happens when you have pale skin i guess ;)

What I meant was usually make-up artists try to use it as regular make-up maybe? Finer lines and designs would make it more interesting and not smudge the effect. At least that's what I noticed from all the UV artists I met before

Nothing regular about that makeup PE. In regular light it looked like she had minimal make-up on. Don't know about lines on a face - a body maybe. This is not so much a smudge as a finely speckled effect. I thought the MU artist did a great job - more organic like the Navi. Skin will be blue under black lights.

"never thought of taking pictures of it"?????

Oic. When i go through mine, and edit them, i'll post some close ups. The end result was not as smudged as you think. More of a sprinkling. There were focusing challenges in the dark so the goal im sure was to keep the eyes in focus wide open aperture so the make up details further away can look more blurry. Yesh's shot is more surreal-type looking cool.

actually, i have a prep shot of the make up being applied. Still a little blurry but you can see finer detail that was actually there. The blue is from the light obviously.

two more

I LOVED how the visible light came from only reactive surfaces! Makes the fabric seem like it's glowing without spill over. UV shooting is kinda cool! ha ha

Great shots everyone. I finally downloaded my images off the camera today. I only got a few that I could work with since I was using a slow shutter and my hot mirror flash images mostly failed because they triggered the studio strobes when I upped my flash power. Gotta find a way to stop the studio strobes from firing and nuking our sensors in the dark.

Thanks for setting up the model, MUA and studio Ed. I think we've barely scratched the surface of possibilities - particularly mixing in gelled (or hot mirrored) strobe, and finding fluorescent stuff to play with. My small set is here: http://www.pbase.com/reimar/black_light

And three samplers:

definitely just scratched the surface!

We didn't even use the glow sticks, etc. stuff we had brought. Lots more to experiment with no doubt!

I'd have to tape off the optical triggers on the ABs or use hot lights for the UV Bulbs like yours to fix the flash issue. Not a biggie, then the mixing flash with UV will open up so many more options of shooting with regular light and glowing UV materials.

Ha ha, anyone who attended this session now knows how it works and can probably set up sessions of their own! There's so much more that can be done now that the basic set up has been established and how it works. From there, you can let your imagination run wild!

For example, right now, I'm considering whether a TRON body suit can be lit up with UV light on the light strips, rather than trying to make LED strips, etc. That would save so much costs that can be put into the shape of the suit or other accessories like a TRON light disk, or modifying a bike to go with the shoot! coooool. ha ha ha :D
