Details: Sunny Days

What: Gotta get out and shoot!
When: March 5th
Time: after 4:30pm
Where: TBD
Bring: whatever you think is necessary

Anyone interested in doing some late afternoon shooting tomorrow? I'm open to suggestions on location, otherwise, I might just towards the waterfront.

waterfront at harbourfront sounds boring, but I might be interested in other location

I suggest you aim for an east west street as the light is pretty good around that time of day and it doesn't last long.

I haven't done much exploring in the city to know the good spots to shoot, so I was hoping to get some ideas here. I agree, the waterfront can be pretty predictable. I'll be in Mississauga until 3pm-ish and then heading back into the city (east end), so I can pretty much meet anywhere in between or pickup someone if they need a ride.

Metrix, PotatoEye: Even if you decide not to come, do you have any suggested locations?

Queen St E or W is always vibrant, some parts of King also, Dundas, I don't know  I bet Ryan knows more places, he's the ultimate street shooting machine :D

Actually, I wanted to visit Graffiti alley, so maybe somewhere along Queen West of Spadina?

Timing is critical 4:30 is almost 2 late to start.

I would consider shooting the financial district loads of people getting off work, start on King and Yonge and work your way NW up through Richmond and Adelaide. In this area the light on Queen is blocked due to Toronto city planning. Queen should be good past university. Alternatively you could try Bloor west of university.

I would join you except I'm not sure of my schedule.

I think you're right PotatoEYE, Ryan does sound like a street shooting machine.

Graffiti alley sounds interesting, but I'm not sure I'd want to spend too much time in there as the sun is quickly setting.

If Friday traffic isn't too bad (yeah right) I can probably make it down there between 3:30 and 4pm. We'll see if there are any other ideas and we can finalize the location by noon tomorrow. Nothing like last minute planning.

I'd be interested, but would need a ride. I'm in Mississauga Lakeshore area. Have you thought about getting out of the city? Maybe Cheltenham Badlands?

I would love to join you guys, but don't think its going to be possible, as I have to be at work for setup work being done on our 35mm projectors. Otherwise.... I'd be there with my medium format cam.

If you are interested in getting out of the city, and doing the Badlands, there is also--in the same area--the Cheltenham Brickworks, and I know of 1 or 2 abandoned houses on the same road that are interesting.

Susan: That sounds like a great idea, but I'm not sure there's enough time given I'll be busy until 3pm-ish. I'd rather like to make an afternoon of it. Maybe tomorrow???

I can pick you up if we're still doing the city shoot.

Put me down for tomorrow if you decide to do it. Think I'll skip the city shoot though.

If you guys organize the out of city event, there might be more people, but do it in advance. For this street shooting, I might be able to get there by 5-6 only

Sounds like today is iffy. I apologize people for the poor organization. I'm truly a last minute type planner and as you can see, it didn't work here.

Anyway, I'm probably just going to find somewhere to stop on my way home and do some shooting on my own.

Susan: I am up for some tomorrow shooting at the places you've mentioned. I'll have room in my car for two more if anyone else wants to come along. I'll PM you my phone number so we can make the arrangements.

Don't stop trying, no need to apologize as sometimes short notice adhoc work sometimes they don't.

Agreed. Keep putting the invites out.:) I'm a last minute responder myself. I tend to be up for simple after work get togethers on short notice if its down town.

If you do end up at the waterfront and notice a guy fiddling with a TLR not really looking like he knows how to work it effectively, then that probably will be me, and so throw a pebble at me or say hi. :P I haven't decided if I want to head out right after work yet or not. We'll see.

What time tomorrow? I do have other plans tomorrow, but might be able to meet you in the afternoon. I already have Susan's phone number so I can find out if you're still shooting when I'm done.

Thanks Ryan and Idam for the words of encouragement. I did end up at the beaches (around the leuty lifeguard station) and pulled off some typical sunset shots. I didn't see anyone else fiddling with a camera, so I can assume you hit a different area Idam.

Janet: I just spoke with Susan and think I'm going to post another last minute Ad-hoc event to see what kind of interest there is for either Saturday or Sunday. Here goes round 2.
