Details:

What: Rangefinder or MF Pagan Winter Solstice Longest Night Ritual In Kensington Market (Festival of Lights)

http://redpepperspectacle.wordpress.com ... of-lights/

When: Mon. Dec 21, 6pm

Where: leaving from Hot Shot 181 Augusta at 6pm sharp

http://www.hotshotkensington.com/wb/

Bring: Range finder or Medium Format Camera, Fast film (or digital)

The idea is to shoot the action within the parade not really to shoot the over crowded bonfire at the end instead go for a beer.

Equipment and Notes:

Rangefinder or MF Camera (holga or Toy allowed. No tripods as this is meant to be up close and personal street street photography under difficult lighting conditions.

This is not a typical TPMG event where we have a gaggle of photographers bunched up together except maybe at the start and at the pub afterwards.

if you are not going to be using these types of cameras but you still want to come then don't signup but just show up.

Maybe someone could host this event for other types of photography.

Sue what camera, lens and type of film are you using? Fresh Portra 800 will push to 1600. Or buy some TMAX 3200P B&W.

Does keeping my dslr in full manual count?:)

Failing that, I'll see if I can get some film for my F1 w/50 f/1.8 during the day and rsvp if slots are still free.

There's absolutely nothing to stop you from just showing up no need to sign-up (I promise we won't ostracize you) or starting your own adhoc event (I wish someone would). In fact the parade is usually a interesting event what ever way you choose to shoot it.

But having said that the idea here was to use rangefinders as street cameras or to use MF in difficult lighting conditions so if you are not going to use those types of cameras then just show up but don't signup. Ihave people coming from the Toronto Flickr group so this is not an exclusive TPMG event

Sorry for asking, but according to the site you gave Hot Shot is 181 Augusta.... and 148 is Methodlab.... so you'll be at 148? or near Hot Shot 181?

Wow.. talk about overcrowded. Lots of people, especially kids running about and strollers everywhere. I had better photos from the walk to and from the parade. Or maybe I'm just not good enough?

Anyway, thanks for organizing Ryan. Finally got a chance to experience this event. Too bad everybody got separated within the first 5 minutes.. lol

Wow, that was crazy crowded, but also very cool. I didn't bother trying to find the group due to the crowd. Maybe I bumped into some of you along the way though! I had a buddy join me last minute who had never attended and who was, shall we say, under the influence as appropriate for kensington market, and he was blown away by the sights.

In any case I shot digital, but will wait to see if anyone else posts up digital shots in this thread or start a new one instead. I packed my film camera, but my iso 400 consumer grade film would've cried had I tried to use it.

I've never known about this festival. Thanks for bringing it up, Metrix.

I was there for about an hour before I got tired of jostling for a position to get a good shot. The drummers outside of the arena were great: They had people dancing. Next year, I'd go early and stake out a vantage point (take a small chair too, lol). Looks like every free public event in T.O this year is over-crowded and not too enjoyable.

I was late but a friend joined me. I couldn't find the TPMGers.

It was ridiculous, everyone and their mother had a DSLR and I saw at least 5 with video DSLR rigs....

It was like Nuit Blanche all over again.
